These days Yerevan is welcoming junior boxing teams arriving from more than 50 countries to participate in AIBA World Junior Boxing Championship that is going to take place in Yerevan on May 23-30. Junior team from Latvia arrived in Yerevan on May 20 together with their trainer Alexander Sotnik. The general sponsor of the Latvian team is Latvian “Norvik” bank.

As A. Sotnik informed “Norvik” UCO representatives, during the recent years boxing has been in a great progress in Latvia. “In 2008 we won one golden medal in European championship and one gold in the World Championship”, - stressed A. Sotnik. In AIBA World Junior Boxing Championship Latvia will be represented by “Sidney – 2000” club.

On May 23 the athletes will participate in draw ceremony and then the preliminaries will take place. The athletes from Latvia will boast the complement of boxers across the 4 weight categories (52, 54, 57 and 66 kg).

As the athletes said during the meeting in “Norvik” UCO on May 21, they liked Yerevan very much, with its mixture of ancient architecture and modern buildings. A. Sotnik also described his first impressions about Yerevan and added that he especially enjoyed the hospitality of Armenian nation and admired walking in the streets of the city full of happy people with smiling faces.

“Norvik” UCO will follow the events during the Championship and is wishing the Latvian team to bring home only gold medals.
